Puppies

Ahh Puppies

They are the bright spots on the farm. From the moment they arrive, the air is filled with excitement. As they grow a little every day, the little changes are miraculous. Ever so slowly they fill out into fat little round shapes and then their eyes ever so slowly start to crack open. One moment they are blind and then, their world changes and they start to see things. Oh the wonder of it all. The first time a pup recognizes you is wonderful. They greet you as if you’re the best thing since Mamma’s milk. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">

They start to figure out how to walk which is amusing since their tummies are larger then their legs are. Then they figure it out and off they go. Climbing out of the whelping box to discover what there is on the other side. All the while, Mamma is watching them with this look of consternation. As if to say "oh dear they have escaped and now there is no peace!" It's usually about this time that Mamma's feel the need to get out for awhile. That is when I get the best bonding time with the puppies. They look to me (and whoever else may be around) for security. They climb in your lap, under your legs and on top of your feet seeking comfort.

All too soon they are off on their own adventures. Racing under the trailer and back out from it. Laying in wait for some poor unsuspecting foot that might pass by. Then, POUNCE they grab it with their sharp little teeth and pull for all their worth. This is such a fun game for them. Let’s see if we can pull the big human down today. They never tire of it and will play for hours.

And then it seems as if you turn around and they are ready to leave. Off to a new family and home. All you have are memories of happy times with them. You pray that they will always have that fun loving place. And when it's time, you start the process all over again and you are amazed once again at the gift of puppies.
